F.P. Journe sponsors the "Young Talent Competition"

Founded in 1985, the Academy of Independent Watch Designers (AHCI) is committed to sustaining the art of independent watchmaking.

It supports exceptional artisan watchmakers who, entirely independently, are pushing back the boundaries of how we tell the time. The AHCI is also the creator of the "Young Talent Competition", which allows young watchmakers to present their designs and showcase their talent.

For the second consecutive year, François-Paul Journe, a member of the AHCI since 1987, sponsored this competition, which is open to 47 international schools of watchmaking in 14 countries. Those wishing to take part in the competition were required:

  • to be an apprentice watchmaker or to have completed their apprenticeship after 31 August 2013,
  • to have designed and produced independently a watch, clock or technical construction,
  • to submit photos or videos of works produced,
  • to enclose a description of the characteristics of their design.

34 watchmakers, AHCI members originating from eleven countries, assessed the most promising horological creations. Selection criteria included technical prowess, complexity, design and aesthetic appearance.

The laureates for 2016 are: Anton Sukhanov (Russia) for his three-dimensional clock with tourbillon on a triple axis; Anna-Rose Kirk (England) for her Horizon Clock; Tristan Ledard (France) for his Clock with Linear Equation of Time. They each received a diploma and the sum of 3,000 francs, offered by the firm Horotec, with which to purchase watchmaker’s tools. In addition, they had the privilege of exhibiting their creations on the AHCI stand at Baselworld alongside recognised members of the Academy.
