Swiss made: progress of the revision project

The project to revise the Federal Ordinance is a multi-stage process. Most importantly, this revision was subordinated to the Swissness draft bill tabled in the second half of 2007 to strengthen protection of the name “Swiss” and federal coats of arms.

June 2007
Vote by the FH General Meeting and request to the federal authorities to revise the ordinance (PrOSM2).

November 2007
Consultation phase of the Swissness legislative bill.

October 2010 - June 2013
Parliamentary debates lead to the Swissness bill being passed, in particular retaining the minimum rate of Swiss value of 60% for industrial products (Press release).

September 2015
The Federal Council adopts the enforcement order and specifies 1st January 2017 as the date of entry into force of Swissness. The move will afford better protection to products meriting the “Swiss” label and will allow more effective steps to be taken to prevent misuse.

June 2016
Following the consultation phase, the Federal Council sets the entry into force of the revised ordinance governing the use of the "Swiss" designation for watches on January 1st, 2017 (Presse release).
