First «Arts and Crafts of the Future» awards

As part of its programme «Arts & Crafts and Design: Exchanging Expertise and Skills», Vacheron Constantin has teamed up with the Ecole Boulle, a Parisian training centre for the applied arts.

Laying special emphasis on creativity and scheduled to run until 2017, this collaboration consists in assigning study projects to students who will be supported and supervised by designers and craftsmen from the Geneva manufactory.

This year, engraver Corentin Ollivau and metal turner Clément Demarson emerged top in the national ranking of the «Arts and Crafts of the Future» awards organised by INMA (national institute of arts and crafts, Paris). These final year students at the Ecole Boulle produced a presentation case intended for a Vacheron Constantin watch.

Inspired by the city of Paris, the case was designed and produced by the two students in multi-ply service wood (a cousin of the pear) in a circular form, with, at its centre, a superbly engraved map of the City of Light. The side of the case holds a drawer in which different tools can be stored, while the watch is revealed by means of an ingenious system of gear-trains. The timepiece is showcased on a «diving board» in the centre of the case, placed above the engraved city map of Paris. This unique piece will be exhibited at the Vacheron Constantin boutique on the Rue de la Paix in Paris.
