Oris pays tribute to Carl Brashear

In honour of Carl Brashear, the Basel firm has unveiled its first bronze watch, thereby celebrating the remarkable life and career of the American soldier.

In 1966, after a perilous mission, he lost part of his left leg and embarked on a long period of rehabilitation. With steely determination, he became in 1968 the first amputee diver to serve in the United States Navy, and later, in 1970, the US Navy’s first Afro-American diving instructor. Following a distinguished service career spanning more than thirty years, Carl Brashear retired in 1979 and died in 2006 at the age of 75.

The Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition watch reinterprets the lines of the Divers Sixty-Five. Made of bronze, it is inspired by materials used in the 1950s for diving suits. Available in a limited edition of 2,000 pieces, this model reveals a quotation by the American soldier on its caseback.
