Mixed third quarter for Richemont

Contrasting with the first two quarters of the 2015/2016 financial year ending on 31 March, this third period fell short of expectations even though it contained the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The exchange rate also muddied the waters in terms of results for this three-month period. From October to December, the group registered sales totalling 2.93 billion Euros, an increase of 3% at actual exchange rates (-4% at constant rates).

Sales by the group’s jewellers (Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Giampiero Bodino) totalled 1.6 billion Euros (+2% at actual rates). The result for watchmakers (A. Lange & Söhne, Baume & Mercier, IWC Schaffhausen, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Officine Panerai, Piaget, Roger Dubuis and Vacheron Constantin) was 826 million (+1%), while firms in the “others” segment (Alfred Dunhill, Chloé, Lancel and Montblanc) recorded an increase of 10%, to 498 million.

During this third quarter, sales declined in Europe (868 million /-3% at constant exchange rates), as well as in Asia Pacific (1.03 billion / -9%) and America (515 million / -3%). For their part, the Middle East and Africa showed no change at 227 million, while Japan registered an upturn of 9%, to 281 million.
