Launch of the 2015/2016 FIS World Cup

Longines reaffirmed its commitment to the world of skiing in its capacity as official partner and timekeeper of the FIS World Cup.

At the FIS Forum which took place in Sölden on 23 October, the Saint-Imier brand presented an upgrade to its timekeeping system, the «Snowgines» photoelectric cell.

The new equipment allows even more accurate measurement of skiers’ speeds, as well as their intermediate and final times. Operating at a distance of more than 200 metres across safety nets, it can also detect competitors’ speeds of up to 200 km/h in all weather conditions. In addition, the system is even more robust and able to withstand external disturbances.

At the forum, the Norwegian skier Aksel Lund Svindal talked about his goals and ambitions for the 2015/2016 season. This Longines ambassador, returning from injury, also underlined his determination to return to competition as quickly as possible.
