A. Lange & Söhne opened its new building

The watch manufacturer officially opened its new building in Glashütte on 26 August.

In the presence of Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Minister-President of Saxony Stanislaw Tillich, A. Lange & Söhne celebrated the completion of three years’ construction work.

With its 5,400 square metres of production space, the building offers optimal, up-to-the-minute working conditions for traditional watchmaking activities. The slightly inclined windows of the workshops allow maximum penetration of light into the premises. A double façade accessible along the north side of the building ensures excellent air conditioning, while the front part houses machines and equipment for the manufacture of watchmaking components. Some departments responsible for the engraving or machining of small parts also have their quarters here.

From an ecological point of view the new construction is characterised by its sustainable architecture, and innovation in terms of energy management. The largest geothermal installation in Saxony, with 55 geothermal probes penetrating to depths of up to 125 metres, ensures a pleasant temperature throughout the year. Pumps are powered by green electrical energy. The new manufacture also operates without CO2 emissions, thereby helping significantly to protect the climate.

This new building is the largest investment ever made by the company, and also represents a considerable mark of confidence in the Glashütte site.
