Passione Caracciola rally with IWC

The manufacture once again shows its passion for classic motor racing by becoming the official partner of the Passione Caracciola rally, which was held for the first time from 17 to 21 June this year.

It took participants from Stuttgart to Lugano via Schaffhouse and the legendary Klausenpass, where Rudolf Caracciola achieved some of his finest victories. On the site, participants laid the first stone of a monument paying homage to the great competitor and top-class driver for Mercedes-Benz, who won 144 races and took the chequered flag in 204 competitions.

Around thirty vehicles built between 1930 and 1960 started the competition. IWC lined up a series of vintage Mercedes-Benz models, including a 300 SLR (W196 S) - a racing car which won the Mille Miglia in the «Sports Cars» category in Brescia in Italy on 1st May 1955 - a silver-grey 300 SL (W198 II) roadster, and a red 300 SL (R107).

IWC ambassador and Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg, as well as security car driver Bernd Mayländer, were present at the start. They took their place behind the wheel of classic Mercedes-Benz cars on the route from Stuttgart to Schaffhausen.

The watch manufacturer presented the winner with an Ingenieur Chronographe Silberpfeil timepiece.
