Sign of Identification of Producer (SIP)

In accordance with article 53 of the Ordinance on the protection of trademarks, the sign of identification of the producer (SIP) must be shown on Swiss watches and movements.

Regulations concerning the sign of identification of the producer (SIP) on Swiss watches and movements were adopted by the FH Board on 4 November 1993. The intended aims are firstly to allow monitoring of the application of the Ordinance on the use of the name "Swiss" for watches of 23 December 1971 (OSM) and secondly to help in the fight against counterfeiting.

The SIP is a series of alphanumerical characters. It may be replaced by the producer’s trademark or company name provided certain conditions are met.

SIP registrations are managed by the FH.
