Richemont Opens A School Of Watchmaking

(November 23, 2009)

Lisa Tschanz and Norbert Platt

On 30 October this year, Norbert Platt, CEO of the Geneva based luxury group Richemont, and Lisa Tschanz, of the Swiss General Consulate in Hong Kong, officially inaugurated the Hong Kong Institute of Swiss Watchmaking (HKIOSW) in Kowloon. The aim of this establishment is to train highly qualified watchmakers for the after-sales servicing of Swiss watches in the Asia-Pacific region. To achieve its objective, it will rely on the 3000-hour programme of lessons established by Wostep in Neuchâtel, which includes both practice (2400 hours) and theory (600 hours). The course will run over a period of two years in classes not exceeding six students.

The HKIOSW is the second Richemont school to see the light of day. Last May, the group opened the North American Institute of Swiss Watchmaking (NAIOSW) in Dallas, in the United States.
