| | On 20 October this year, the Swatch Group subsidiary Dress Your Body (DYB) laid the first stone of its future jewellery centre in Corcelles-Cormondrèche, near Neuchâtel. Construction work should be completed in November 2007.
The Swatch Group, which has invested 10 million francs in the first phase of the work, plans to bring together in Corcelles-Cormondrèche the different workshops of its DYB subsidiary. The Neuchâtel site is therefore expected to include DYB Bijoux, DYB Gems and DYB Manufacture, whose workshops are currently dotted around the city of Biel, and also DYB Sertissage and DYB Casting, based in Villeret. Around 130 employees will be joining the Corcelles-Cormondrèche centre from November 2007.
The DYB building will be located on the site of the old Meseltron plant, owned by the Swatch Group. As a preliminary step towards future developments, the group has also secured the dezoning of a wine-growing plot measuring 9,000 m² located downstream of the factory, in the district of Auvernier.
The future DYB site will include three visible levels, terraced in the slope which looks onto the Bay of Auvernier. The Swatch Group also wishes to make the Corcelles-Cormondrèche centre a meeting place for its international visitors, as well as a shop window for the company’s products.
In the longer term, the directors of DYB plan to develop in Corcelles-Cormondrèche a skills and training centre for watchmaking professions (enamelling, engine-turning, engraving, chasing). If the plan comes to fruition, several hundred jobs could be created. |
